The popular Nigerian comedian, content creator and skit maker, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel popularly known as ‘Oga sabinus’ has threatened to sue the popular milk brand ‘peak’ over the use of his trademarked phrase, “something hooge”.
The comedian has also threatened to institute an action against the popular gala brand for using his pictures to make adverts and promotion for their products
In a notice signed by the comedian’s lead counsel, Mr Stanley Alike dated 27 may 2022, the comedian demanded the payment of 1 billion for the unauthorised use of his intellectual property and for the damages he suffered for the trademark theft and infringement of his intellectual property rights by the milk brand , peak.
The comedian revealed that the advert was made on Peak Milk Nigeria’s verified page on the 24 May 2022. The comedian stated that the slogan “something hooge” was trademarked on 26 November 2021 with the file number: NG/TM/O/2021/48316.
The comedian in his charge against the UAC Foods Ltd issued on 25 May 2022, demanded for the payment of N100million , for the use of his picture which according to him is the average fee he charges a client for his pictures to be used for adverts and promotions .
He revealed that UAC Food made a post on it’s verified instagram handle on the 23rd may 2022 with his cartoon picture which they captioned “the way I calculate everything in my life”. The comedian claimed that the post attracted massive traffic, engagements and followers to the brand because of his pictures used for the advert.
The comedian who was recently awarded at the African Movies Viewer’s Choice Award [AMVCA] as the best online content creator of the year 2022, has given the both companies an ultimatum of 14 working days to meet his demands or meet him in court.
